We went to Zoo Lights in Memphis the other night after work. We decided at lunch that day that it was a good night to take Henry, so off we went. We love Memphis. It is where we fell in love. We tried to tell Henry about it as we drove over the “new” bridge on the way to the zoo. It was dark so the bridge and all of downtown was aglow. Henry looked out of his window, smiled, waved and said “Hi Mepis” and quickly turned back to his “Beggie Bales” video.
Randall and I went to Zoo Lights in our previous life….before H and before we moved to Arkansas. We always build it up to be bigger than it is and every year we go to it we find ourselves saying “is this it?!”. That is how traditions are though I think.
Last year Henry was not having any of it. In fact, we took a photo at this same spot last year and it was the beginning of a major melt down. We were so proud of him this time. He did not cry all night. He is such a big boy!
He wanted to run and touch the lights. I love that he is sitting in front of “world” because he is my whole world! When I tell him to smile and say “cheese” he always sits down. It is kind of funny. That is what happened here.
When we take him to the zoo he always spots the playground and says “I want pay” over and over. This time we stopped and let him “pay”. He loved the little hippo until a little girl came and tried to take it over. We had to say “bye bye mr. hippo”.
These two boys are such a cute mess. Henry loves riding on his daddy’s shoulders and pulling on his hat. Henry had spotted Santa and the reindeer on a roof and was beginning to yell “roof!”…not “Santa” as you would expect, but “roof” instead. Oh, Henry!
Festive fun with my baby makes my heart extra happy. I love making memories and building traditions with our little buddy. Do you like my pink hat? My Meemaw bought it for me at Ann Taylor when I was in college. I have not worn it in several years. I thought of her all night while in Memphis at Christmastime wearing that hat. Sweet memories for sure. She has been gone for 10 years this coming February but I sometimes miss her like it was just yesterday.
This is Christmas to me. So many things are Christmas to me. This is one of them. I love my husband’s ability to make me laugh and my Henry’s ability to make me swell up with Mama pride. What a fun outing we had in Memphis at the zoo.
